Ivan Serpa was a Brazilian artist and art educator, known for his contributions to the Concrete Art movement in Brazil. He was born on December 14, 1923, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro and later worked as a professor of art and design at the Museum of Modern Art in Rio and also at the School of Fine Arts of Bahia.
Serpa's works are characterized by geometric abstraction and the use of vibrant colors. He was particularly interested in exploring the relationship between light, color, and space in his artworks. His works were heavily influenced by Brazilian culture, architecture, and music.
Throughout his career, Serpa exhibited his artworks in various galleries and museums in Brazil and internationally. He was a recipient of several awards and honors for his contributions to the field of art, including the National Prize for Plastic Arts from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture in 1981.
Serpa passed away on November 8, 1973, at the age of 49, due to complications from surgery.
